Feet of a baby in hands

Your Hypnobirthing Teacher

The courses offered by Little Owl are run by Alice Lucas.

I have been teaching Hypnobirthing to Mums and Dads since 2013. I studied at The Hypnobirthing Association under Katharine Graves, on the Royal College of Midwives approved Hypnobirthing Teaching course. Katharine was taught by Marie Mongan herself, and has since developed a more UK based approach to Hypnobirthing. I am a registered member of the Hypnobirthing Association.

My Hypnobirthing Experience

Hypnobirthing teacher Alice Lucas

It took a while for our longed for baby to come into the world. We waited some time to conceive, and then experienced a difficult first few months of pregnancy. Neither me nor my husband were calm, or relaxed, about the arrival of our baby, or the possibility of becoming parents.

Many of my friends and family had described their difficult experiences of childbirth and I had always felt that there must be another way. I couldn't understand why birth should be such a traumatic process for so many people. My sister-in-law mentioned Hypnobirthing and I thought it looked like a really positive approach to birth and pregnancy.

As the date of the course approached I was hopeful that it would be what I was looking for, but I admit I was also a bit sceptical. My husband was very unsure about the whole thing, but he was kindly supporting me.

We found the course extremely informative on all aspects of birth and very empowering. It all made so much sense. Initally, I wasn't sure how much factual information on birth I really wanted to know. I imagined that ignorance might be better than too much information leading to fear. However, I soon realised that I wanted to be in charge of my own birth experience, so that I could make it as positive as possible.

The exercises and breathing techniques soon changed me from a very anxious pregnant lady, to a calm and prepared mum-to-be. Even friends and family remarked on the change.

When the time came to give birth I felt absolutely ready and calm; labour progressed swiftly. When our daughter was born she scored top marks on all her tests, breast fed well and was a calm and contented baby from the moment she opened her eyes. We couldn't believe how well the Hypnobirthing techniques had worked. One of the midwives who attended, admitted that she had been sceptical at first, but was amazed at how calm and in control I had been, without the need for pain relief.

Hypnobirthing provided us with all the information we needed to make the right choices about the birth we wanted, the techniques for a calm and natural labour, and the best start for a new life together.
